ABOUT  OCEAN BREEZE ( EX - VO 70 SANYA LAN ):

Ocean Breeze is a refitted Volvo 70 and was built in 2008 for the Spanish Challenge team "TELEFONICA BLUE" for the Volvo Ocean Race and as "SANYA LAN" for the Volvo Ocean Race 2011.

After the 2017 complete refit and new sails she will start her charter season in January in the Caribbean and she will be  ready for the Caribbean regatta circuit, Newport Volvo Ocean  stopover, Cardiff Volvo Ocean  stopover, Goteborg Volvo Ocean  stopover, The Hague Volvo Ocean  stopover, Round the Island race 2018 UK, Cowes week 2018, Les Voiles de Saint Tropez 2018, Rolex Middles Sea Race 2018 and the ARC 2018. 

HISTORY:

When Team Sanya (Chinese entry in the Volvo Ocean Race) formed only 3 months before the race start they quickly engaged Diverse Yacht Services to cover all of their electronic and electrical needs. Rachel Howe has joined the Team Sanya Shore Team on behalf of Diverse Yacht Services for the duration of the race to fulfil this role.

Diverse had a tight window of only 4 weeks to transform Telefonica Blue into Sanya Lan for the start of the Rolex Fastnet Race. A key part of this project was making a quick and accurate assessment of what was essential and realistic to achieve to fit with the goals, time frame and budget requirements of Team Sanya.

“With such a short time frame I knew there was no margin for error so we have focused on putting together as simple and reliable package as possible for Sanya. I have worked closely with the sailing team and primarily Aksel Magdahl (onboard navigator) to build a solution that fits the team’s overall objectives” says Rachel.

The work list has been extensive and covers a Diverse spectrum:

• Rewiring the yacht
• Upgrading the DC system and onboard charging
• Design and installation of the onboard PC network
• Updating and simplifying the instrument system
• Load cell servicing

Rachel sums up with “This project pretty much sums up to me why someone would entrust a project to Diverse. Much of what has been achieved has only been possible because of the support and backing of the whole team at Diverse and, as ever, this has been a real team effort. The unsung heros, Sophie and Paul, in the office ensured we had all the parts sourced and delivered on time while Ashton has made considerable input on the tools.”
