SWAN 45 JEROBOAM WINS COPA DEL REY 2015
Nautor’s Swan enjoyed a resounding success at the 34 Copa del Rey MAPFRE in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, with three Swan 45s as top finishers in the BMW ORC1 Division, and nine Swans in the top ten, out of 44 entries.
Vittorio Codecasa’s Swan 45 Jeroboam - BMW Sail Racing Academy (ITA) won an intense battle over his two German rivals Elena Nova (Christian Plump) and Earlybird(Hendrik Brandis/Christian Nagel). The Italian team finished the competition with a total of 38.5 points, ahead of the two Germans tied on 39 points.
Vittorio Codecasa, flying the colours of Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, commented: “The Copa del Rey is in my opinion the most beautiful race in the Mediterranean, and I am overjoyed and incredibly proud of our victory! I am especially pleased of having succeeded in such a heated head-to-head ‘all-Swan’ battle, which we fought until the last point with our friends of Elena Nova, Earlybird and Magical Mystery Tour. The collaboration with BMW Sail Racing Academy, and having two talented champions such as father-and-son Roberto and Simone Ferrarese in our crew, has undoubtedly made the difference in our performance. Thanks to the hard work and commitment of the whole team, we were able to achieve this challenging goal."
Eight teams from four different nationalities were crowned today winners of the 34 Copa del Rey MAPFRE, organized by the Real Club Náutico de Palma (RCNP) and the Real Federación Española de Vela (RFEV). 2015 saw a record number of entries, as 135 teams from 23 nations enjoyed a week of extraordinary competition. H.R.H. King Felipe VI competed onboard the Spanish Army’s Corel 45 Aifos and presented the trophies to the champions.
The winners of the 34 Copa del Rey MAPFRE are: Ran V (Gaastra IRC 0) and Quantum Racing (TP52 Super Series) from the USA, Mamma Aiuto (Rías Baixas IRC 1) from Japan, Jeroboam BMW Sail Racing Academy (BMW ORC 1) from Italy, and Spaniards Noticia IV (Singular Kitchen Soto 40), Movistar (BMW ORC 2), Red Eléctrica de España(Air Europa X-35), Ono Polaroid Tressis (Herbalife J80).
